About

Meet the Author

Deborah was born in London, England, and immigrated to the United States as a young child aboard the legendary Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2). Her family eventually settled in a small Alabama town, where she grew up as one of five siblings in a home shaped by compassion, curiosity, and community. Her father, the town’s beloved country doctor, served as an early inspiration—his quiet dedication planting the seeds for both her lifelong career in healthcare and her deep appreciation for human connection.

Deborah attended boarding school in the scenic mountains of Asheville, North Carolina, before earning both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from the University of South Alabama. Over the years, she has built a rich and varied nursing career in urgent care, family practice, neurology, sleep medicine, and now home health. It was during long drives to visit homebound patients that ideas for stories began to emerge—vivid characters and playful plots keeping her company along winding country roads.

Meet Deborah Sullivan, a children's author and nurse from Idaho. Here, she is sitting on a white couch, with a story book in hand, proudly authoring the book: "The Adventures of Cuthbert, the Ever So Curious Octopus".

Though writing had long been a quiet dream, the busyness of life as a nurse and mother often left little time for creative pursuits. It wasn’t until the global pause brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic that Deborah finally had the space to begin putting her stories on paper. That moment of stillness gave birth to a new chapter in her life—one filled with imagination, joy, and the boundless possibilities of children’s literature.

Deborah is the author of The Adventures of Cuthbert the Ever So Curious Octopus, a delightful story that celebrates curiosity, exploration, and the magic of the deep sea. She has two additional children’s books currently in development and is also hard at work on a middle grade fantasy series designed to engage young minds through adventure, heart, and just a touch of mischief.

Her passion lies in entertaining young readers while helping to expand their growing vocabularies. Deborah loves to introduce the occasional “big word”—always thoughtfully placed in context—to gently stretch her readers’ language skills and confidence, all while keeping them thoroughly entertained.

Today, Deborah lives in Idaho with her second husband and a beautifully blended family that includes seven adult children and five grandchildren. When she’s not writing or caring for patients, she enjoys family time, the natural beauty of the Northwest, and dreaming up new stories that spark wonder, laughter, and learning.

With each book, Deborah invites children to embrace curiosity, explore new worlds, and discover the extraordinary within the everyday.
